iip – an international idea pool for architecture + urban design  founded by Catherine Ann Somerville Venart in 2002, as a platform for international and interdisciplinary collaboration that seeks to respond to the specific contexts of each of the projects it undertakes. As a platform for collaborative practice, it brings together international experts from various professions, ranging from Landscape, Architecture, Ecologists, Engineers, Wildlife Biologists, Interior Designers & Artists, Developers and Builders with the agenda to produce holistic and sustainable designs that reflect a deep understanding of ‘context’, which work on various scales and types of projects to push innovation and the boundary of the profession.

This approach produces deep understanding of place, the economies, material makeup and the various systems and processes involved in any given project and its context. Engaging  with communities, creating connectivity between the various stake holders or groups involved. iip takes on projects at a variety of scales and types from the house to mixed use housing; from urban design, infrastructure and hydrology or ecology to re:use (buildings/renovations/interiors); or investigations  materials that development prototypical studies of facade elements, linking experience/form/structure; to the design of parks and public space. iip strives to facilitate and develop a holistic way of thinking and structuring – ideas into built form.
